VN24 - 04-02-2025 (D/M/Y) - Hamm A2 / Germany - The fire department was called out to the A2 freeway near Hamm shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A tire had caught fire on a semitrailer in the westbound direction. It was later discovered that the brake on one of the three rear axles had overheated and set the tire on fire. After the driver had steered the truck onto the hard shoulder, the flames also set fire to the tarpaulin and parts of the trailer. Fortunately, the load itself turned out to be non-combustible sheet metal parts for the manufacture of vehicle seats. Nevertheless, the driver had the presence of mind to uncouple the tractor unit and protect it from the flames. The fire department extinguished the fire and cooled the brake drum until there was no longer any danger of re-ignition. The Horstmann service company took care of the removal of the truck. In addition, one of the damaged tires was re-inflated and mounted on site.
