The death and funeral of the evergreen Gareth and the eulogy given by John Hannah have become one of British cinema's iconic moments and the fated romance between Carrie (Andie MacDowell) and Grant's Charlie is now a classic love story of modern cinema, and rightly so. The soundtrack features many popular songs and won an oscar for Wet Wet Wet's Love is all around us. Embedded and threaded around, within and among the contemporary songs is the most beautiful subtle classical score writen by one of Britain's most accomplished musicians, composer and pianist Richard Rodney Bennett. He was known for his musical versatility, drawing from such influences as jazz, romanticism, and avant-garde classical styles; and for his use of twelve-tone technique and serialism. His body of works includes over 200 serious concert works and 50 scores for film and television. He was active in jazz, as a composer, a pianist, and an occasional vocalist but Four Weddings was one of his most popular and best loved soundtracks. The scoring is very conservative but beautiful, evocative and fresh. This medley embraces a number of extracts - all known under the generic track name Funeral Blues.
