Home of the Brave: When Southbury Said NO to the Nazis was filmed and produced by film maker Scott Sniffen for the Southbury Historical Society in 2012. The film recollects an time in 1937 when the German-American Bund bought land in Southbury with plans to build Camp General Von Stueben, a Hitler-Youth style camp. However, the residents of the small town chose to find a way to stop this from happening. The newspapers across the country picked up the story about the small town of 1300 residents who were ready to fight against the seemingly powerful Bund, which many believed was controlled directly by Adolf Hitler. The story is told by Southbury clergy along with residents or children of residents who witnessed the situation first hand.
