Bear Branch Best Trick 2013 Southside Skatepark

Once upon a time we thought The Woodlands area needed a Southside Skateshop. In fact we had a lot of locals telling us it did and they even convinced us to try it. Well a 60 month commercial lease and make ready on a rental space later, FAIL. It was so rough driving all the way to "the bubble" from Seabrook, Texas. Never make that logistical mistake young entrepreneur's, keep your entities close to home. By the time we opened in 2011 surrounded by skateparks with Bear Branch 3 miles away, Harper's Landing out the back door and Kasmiersky Skatepark not far away we discovered a scene that had already created channels to acquire product elsewhere. Mall, online, Cade's etc they didn't need another shop. Sure was a surprise to us as again we never would have tried to have a shop up there had we not been invited by so many. Another issue was the number of scooter and BMX riders in the area. Many wood have been skateboarders were on those other ridable devices. All good, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and we learned so much while running three shops at once. This best trick event at Bear Branch was our attempt at putting something on for the locals in an effort to spark the scene and promote awareness of our Southside Skateshop at the time which was located in Shenandoah, Texas.
