In 2018, Somalia took a historic step by introducing its first National Social Work Curriculum, developed collaboratively by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs and Human Rights, the Ministry of Education, and leading universities, with support from UNICEF and generous funding from the Danish Government. Eight universities across the country now offer this program, creating the foundation for a professional social service workforce for the first time in Somalia’s history. From classrooms to communities, Somalia’s new generation of social workers are making a real difference, providing care, support, and hope to vulnerable families and children. This video highlights the importance of training, empowering, and supporting social workers, and calls on development partners and the government to invest in this vital workforce, ensuring that every community has access to qualified, dedicated social service professionals.
