For children to thrive, early childhood development needs a complete ecosystem of care—Good Health, Adequate Nutrition, Opportunities for Early Learning, Responsive Caregiving, and Safety & Security. Evidence shows that investments in the early years have lifelong benefits, improving health, productivity, and overall well-being into adulthood (World Bank Group, 2017). Meghalaya’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) Mission strengthens outcomes through interventions in three key spaces: • Family & Home • Centres (Anganwadi Centres and Pre-Schools) • Community, by leveraging frontline workers and community institutions This is a first-of-its-kind integrated mission in India, bringing together the Departments of Health, Education, Social Welfare, and Community & Rural Development to work in convergence—because children’s needs are interconnected.
