In baseball every millisecond counts especially when it comes to do or die plays like turning two or throwing a runner out at second base. The proper mechanics for an infielder are to hold the glove hand and throwing hand about midsection height and face the palms towards the trajectory of the throw. For a catcher we also want the hands close together but we want are throwing hand tucked behind or glove about a baseball width behind the glove to avoid injury. A note for catchers on our throwing hand we want to tuck to thumb under the rest of our fingers to avoid foul balls being hit off the tip of the thumb. Now the trick to the quickest transfer came from a tip from a big league player when I was coming up through travel ball. His name is Felix Millan of the Atlanta Braves and his tip was"DON"T CLOSE YOUR GLOVE" during the transfer of the throw. What we want to do is use the momentum of the ball to quickly stop the ball with our glove and bat it into our throwing hand therefore taking out the milliseconds it would take to squeeze and then grab the ball out of the glove. The absolute best way to learn this is to practice it every single time you get a chance to practice your transfer. Meaning during warm-ups or practice and or every single time you catch a ball you can always work on your transfer. Repetition is the mother of all learning and if done this way before you know it you will have thousands and thousands of repetitions of transferring the ball and do your hand. Once you have thousands of repetitions on your belt transferring the baseball will be second nature to you in the game.
