Mr. Koichi Abe of Ishinomaki Gas Inc. recorded the footage from the rooftop of his office near the Ishinomaki fishing port. After the big earthquake, approximately 35 people, including Ishinomaki Gas employees, were evacuated to this rooftop at their headquarters. The video begins with footage of water entering near Prefectural Highway #240 from the shoreline. The flow carries a large amount of debris that approaches the building, instantly transforming into a turbulent torrent. The water overflows into the parking lot in front of the building for a brief moment, then washes all the cars into the parking lot. Mr. Koichi Abe and those around him climb higher to the roof. Looking around the horizon 360 degrees, all the areas surrounding the building have become sea, isolating it within the torrent. After the tsunami receded, the evacuees spent the night in the building. This building, where the footage was shot was later restored and currently operates as Ishinomaki Gas Myojin office.
