Kate O’Connor claimed the Her Sport 2025 title of Athlete of the Year sponsored by AYA. In combined events, few seasons in Irish history compare to what Kate O’Connor delivered in 2025. She medalled at every major championship across the heptathlon and pentathlon, broke national records and delivered Ireland’s first global outdoor medal in the multi-events, highlighted by silver at the World Championships in Tokyo where she scored an Irish-record 6,714 points built on five personal bests. That historic year also included silver at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, bronze at the European Indoors in Apeldoorn where she set a national pentathlon record, and heptathlon gold at the World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr. Across the season she broke Irish records in both disciplines, recorded lifetime bests in five events and finished the year ranked second in the world.
