Today I'm sharing an example of motor starting using a compensator switch, a solution widely used in larger industrial applications. Simply put, this system uses an autotransformer to reduce the voltage during motor start-up, allowing it to begin operating more smoothly, with lower current and less impact on the electrical network. After a few seconds, the circuit automatically switches, and the motor operates at full voltage, ensuring normal operation. In the circuit, contactors and a timer work together to control this transition, while protective devices such as circuit breakers, fuses, and thermal relays ensure system safety. 💡 This type of starting is widely used in large motors, such as those in compressors, pumps, and industrial fans, where direct starting could cause voltage drops in the network. ⚠️ Disadvantage: Although efficient, the system has a higher cost and complexity, as it uses more components and occupies more space on the panel, in addition to requiring more careful maintenance. 🔎 Projects like this show how the choice of starting method directly influences the efficiency, safety, and stability of the electrical installation.
