Lessebo is a town with less than 3000 inhabitants, and it lies in the south of Sweden, in the province of Småland. It's a pretty unremarkable town, with few things to make it special. In this video I want to show a typical rural town in Sweden - and give some personal stories of what it was like growing up there. But Lessebo itself doesn't have a glassworks, and it's just a small town that's getting by - but not much more. The most famous feature of Lessebo is its 300 years old hand paper mill - but that one has struggled financially for a long time. Aside from that there are some stores, some pizzerias (that double up as pubs), some schools, and a lot of nature. Two lakes (Läen and Öjen) lie to the west and the east of the town center, and there are nice sections of forest to walk around in. But is that enough for people who live there? And for kids growing up? I also dive into the darker side of Lessebo in this video. Murders, racism, small-mindedness - there's a lot to complain about in this community, and it's not exactly as picturesque as you might first imagine when you see images from this little town.
