Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils in the child's throat. Common signs and symptoms of tonsillitis include enlarged and swollen tonsils with pus points, sore throat, difficulty and pain in swallowing and painful lymph nodes on the sides of the neck. Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by bacterial infections usually streptococcus pyogenes. It is quite important to get an accurate diagnosis of tonsillitis as antibiotics are required. Penicillin groups of antibiotics are used and the duration of treatment is 10 days.
