Many people have walked the trails of Ceres Park in Mantua Township, but few know the curious history of this local gem. Erik Mollenhauer shares the storied past of a land where dinosaurs roamed. In the 19th century, this land would become an industrial-scale site for mining marl fertilizer. In the 20th century, it would eventually be reborn as a refuge for native plants and wildlife. In addition to the evolution of the park, the presentation will also feature some of the park’s native plants and the threats they are facing. This presentation was recorded live at the December 11, 2025 meeting of the Gloucester County Nature Club held in Wenonah, New Jersey.
