This session, “Outlook 2026 – What Are the Prospects for Business?”, featured Professor Justin Robinson, Campus Principal of UWI Five Islands and Professor of Corporate Finance, who provided a wide-ranging and thought-provoking analysis of the global, regional, and domestic forces shaping the business environment in 2026. Drawing on current geopolitical shifts, trade dynamics, and macroeconomic trends, Professor Robinson explored what these developments mean for Caribbean economies and, more specifically, for small and medium-sized enterprises. Key areas covered included: The changing global economic order and its implications for small states and open economies Geopolitical risk, trade uncertainty, and supply-chain fragility Cost-of-living pressures, currency and financial access considerations Tourism performance, labour market shifts, and migration trends Risks and opportunities facing MSMEs across key sectors Practical strategies for business resilience, including cash management, supply-chain diversification, collaboration, and regional integration The importance of adaptability, scenario planning, and building long-term resilience in an increasingly volatile environment This session offers valuable insights for business owners, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders seeking to better understand the challenges ahead and position their enterprises for sustainability and growth in 2026.
