Today on Foodie Two Shoes, my mom and I visit a Thai restaurant in Fountain Valley, California, to try two classic dishes: ปลาผัดเผ็ด (Pla Pad Phet) and ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ (Thai Boat Noodles). In this 5-minute video, we explore something many Thai people notice when eating Thai food in the U.S. — Americanization. Some dishes stay close to the real thing… and some get adapted for convenience, cost, or local taste. 🍛 ปลาผัดเผ็ด (Spicy Stir-Fried Fish) In Thailand, this dish is made using whole chopped fish, fried and stir-fried with curry paste, fingerroot, green peppercorns, and herbs. But here in America, it often becomes fried fish nuggets tossed in sauce — easier to prepare, easier to eat, but definitely not the same as the traditional version. 🍜 ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ (Boat Noodles) Surprisingly, the boat noodles here taste pretty close to Thailand. The broth is rich, bold, and จัดจ้าน — though thicker and richer than the silky bowls served in Bangkok. And of course… the portion size is American-style huge! This video isn’t about criticizing restaurants — it’s about sharing awareness of how Thai dishes evolve outside Thailand and appreciating the flavors we grew up with.
