ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising- Nothing Basic About This!! S2E2

This episode has us waking up to a beautiful morning in Miami with flat calm water and a glorious sunrise. We had anchored the night before at Miami Marine Stadium with a Sunday crowd of party goers. The day began with a great breakfast from Captain Keith and was followed by an hour and a half of studying and classroom work. With our review over it was time to take our first test of the week consisting of Basic sailing knowledge. The test was fairly easy and it lead us into the days activities of learning the basic components of the engine. With the motor out of the way, we pulled up anchor and headed off to sail the afternoon away. The day consisted of tacking, tacking, and more tacking. We learned to heave to, which keeps the boat fairly stationary while breaking for lunch or taking a break. We also had great wind and learned to reef the sails. The day ended in No Name harbor in Key Biscayne with me dropping anchor for the first time. Took a couple of tries and finally set it snug and relaxed with an amazing sunset and some friends of our Captain dropping by for dinner. Second night on the hook, and the sleep was awesome.
