Frank's Extra Spicy hot sauce, downed in one gulp. This is no click bait, I literally drank a whole bottle. Trust me, I was very sick. The Bible is centred around two promises God has made about judgment and mercy. We know that God hates wickedness and will one day judge the earth and condemn people to hell for eternity. But we also know that God has made a way to escape judgment through the death of His Son, so that rather than experiencing hell, we can experience love, forgiveness, and an eternal relationship with Him. The problem is that we tend to focus more on one of these than the other. So there are men on street corners shouting turn or burn, and preachers who will never mention sin so that you never feel unloved in their church. If you talk only about judgment, you're describing a God who would never send His son to die. If you talk only about love, you're describing a God who had no good reason for sending His son. A gospel of all love is like trying to drink a bottle of honey. It's just too sweet on its own. A gospel of wrath of like trying to drink a bottle of hot sauce. Just not pleasant. When you present the gospel, keep the whole character of God in mind. The reason the gospel is so good is because we have a God who is willing to step into our brokenness and fix it. God is faithful to judge, and also faithful to save from judgment. And we need to keep both of those things in mind. Honey and hot sauce aren't very good by themselves. But they taste great together. Mixed, and in moderation, these are both delicious.
