이 대통령 "통상•안보협의 최종타결" 한미, 공동 팩트시트 발표 Hello and thanks for joining us on Arirang News. We begin with the latest on the South Korea-U.S. trade deal, following last month's summit between President Lee Jae Myung and his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump. The allies' joint fact sheet was announced this morning. Our presidential office correspondent, Yoon Jung-min, is on the line. Jung-min, what's the latest? Eun-ji, President Lee Jae Myung himself announced the joint fact sheet this morning. He first called his U.S. counterpart a "good partner." Take a look. "The rational decision by U.S. President Trump played a key role in yielding today's meaningful negotiations. I would like to express my gratitude and respect for his courage." On the security front, the allies have agreed to cooperate on South Korea building nuclear-powered submarines, which requires U.S. support under the current Korea-U.S. nuclear energy agreement. "We have succeeded in securing the U.S. government's support for expanding our authority for uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing." South Korea is set to obtain nuclear fuel from the U.S. to build nuclear-powered submarines. Seoul says the sub will be built domestically, although Trump said previously it would be constructed at a Philadelphia shipyard. No details were specified in today's fact sheet about when and where construction will take place. President Lee also said the two sides have reaffirmed the U.S.' commitment to the presence of U.S. Forces Korea and to continued cooperation for the transition of wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul. The South Korean Commander-in-Chief added that the Korea-U.S. alliance has been upgraded to a "comprehensive strategic partnership" in a future-oriented way that encompasses trade and security. On the trade front, President Lee said the previously agreed-upon investments will be made in projects that are "commercially reasonable." The two countries already agreed that South Korea will pay 200 billion dollars in cash, with an annual ceiling of 20 billion dollars for the investment package worth 350 billion dollars. The remaining 150 billion dollars will be invested in cooperation in shipbuilding. As a result, U.S. tariffs on South Korean cars and certain other items will be lowered from 25 percent to 15. As for Korean semiconductors, the U.S. will apply tariffs at levels not less favorable than other nations. Today's announcement follows the summit between the presidents of the two countries two weeks ago in Gyeongju to lower the Trump administration's tariffs. The allies have been discussing details of the joint fact sheet and MOUs. I will bring more updates in a later newscast. Back to you, Eun-ji. Alright Jung-min. Do keep us updated.
