Is it a "Vanity Project" North Shields Transport Hub ?

North Shields Transport Hub and town square opened in North Shields on 2nd September 2023. The work is part of a £12.94m project which started in March 2022, and is part of a plan to transform North Shields into an attractive, family-friendly destination. North Tyneside Council claims that the transport hub is its first fully carbon-neutral building in construction and operation, as part of a wider aim to be carbon net-zero by 2030. Not everyone is happy with the new transport hub. Conservative councillor Liam Bones, leader of the opposition on North Tyneside Council believes that the transport hub is a "vanity project" and that North Shields town centre is "dying". Coun Bones said: "This transport hub is just the latest in a long line of vanity projects under this Mayor. North Shields town centre is dying, with rising anti-social behaviour, more empty shops and less reasons to visit - this bus station fixes a problem that doesn’t exist."
