As countries in the Asia-Pacific move closer to malaria elimination, ensuring that every patient receives optimized and complete treatment has become a critical priority. Since primaquine and tafenoquine can cause hemolysis in individuals with G6PD deficiency, testing is essential before administering a radical cure for P. vivax malaria. In recent years, advances in point-of-care diagnostics have made G6PD testing more accessible and operationally feasible; however, implementation remains uneven, particularly in resource-limited and remote settings. This TechTalk explored G6PD test deployment and existing gaps, field experiences, and emerging solutions to improve patient access. Panellists discussed the current situation, shared lessons from ongoing studies and integration efforts across the region, and highlighted ways to enable the routine use of G6PD testing more effectively.
