STORYLINE: US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday held talks with her Moroccan counterpart in Marrakech. Taib Fassi Fihri was the first of a number of foreign ministers she was due to meet for talks on the Middle East peace process. Following her talks with Fihri, Clinton was due to fly to the southern-central city of Ouarzazate for an audience with Moroccan King Mohammed VI. Later in the day, she was expected back in Marrakech for talks with foreign ministers of several Gulf nations. Clinton was also expected to meet separately with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, who has rejected US appeals for improved Arab relations with Israel as a way to help restart Middle East peace talks, saying the Jewish state is not interested in a deal. The secretary of state has been criticised by Arab nations for comments she made on Saturday, in which she praised Israel's offer to restrain - but not stop - building settlements in Palestinian territory.
