Attempt 3 to upload this one, Parlophone really weren't happy with how much of the 2014 Sue video I used. Let's see if this one works..! This reading is pulled from the Chapter 9 ('Chaos and Chemistry'), from my book 'Blackstar Theory: The Last Works of David Bowie'. As I explain over the intro, that chapter folds in two analyses ('Sue' and ''Tis a Pity...') into a larger philosophical exploration of chaos. I decided to stick to just the musicological bits in this video (for the most part), as a very long, academic video is probably not what people want! Rather than tease out all of the meaning-making affordances (say, from lyrical imagery), in this reading I'm focussing more on the ways this composition creates intensity and sensation. Again, this is really not intended to be a definitive reading of the song. Thanks for watching x
