The obvious star catch here is British Railways West Country Class 34046 "Braunton" steaming through very quickly, and looking and sounding absolutely majestic! Backed up at the rear by 37 667, it was running an un-advertised, likely private, charter service which did a London Victoria circular route via Dover Priory. This tour was not listed on any of the usual websites I look at when finding out what rail tours are running when (including Railtour Info 2023, Railway Herald, and Rail Advent's tour list), and I only knew this was steam-hauled when I investigated this working on Real Time Trains that morning, as Locomotive Services Limited publish 'Know your Train' allocations there which tell you what is working a specific service. Having been available to at the time, I decided to venture here to see it at speed. Teynham Station was unusually almost completely empty (bar two dog walkers) when the steam train thundered through, a very rare sight as the platforms would be rather busy nine times out of ten. Being un-advertised gave it a better chance at sticking to time without worrying as much about potential trespassers going for 'that shot', for instance, and it actually passed here three minutes early. Hope you enjoy! A tripod has been used to aid some of the shots of the neat little level crossing here on a little single-track road. It had gates that were opened only on request until 2012, though is now operated remotely from Gillingham's East Kent Signalling Centre and monitored through CCTV. For some of the shots, I was unfortunately faced with a not-ideal decision between either filming towards the low winter sun after it had started to move round, or having to make-do with an idling engine coming from a van right behind the shot(s) which sat there with its engine running for quite a while.
