The bottom bracing is finally done. More Cusco goodness installed and a compatibility of older parts to this chassis. Since then I've installed HKS Hipermax IV GT coilovers and I can now say that the suspension, drivetrain, and tires are ready for a bump in power from the engine. The journey to a balanced street car is nearing completion. The Type II ladder brace is meant for 2008-2014 WRX STIs however with research and measuring, fitment was made possible to take advantage of this stronger unit compared to the 2015+ version. The only tradeoff is sacrificing the bridged connection between the subframe to the aft section of the front lower control arm. A feature that is proprietary to the VA chassis. The other con to running the VA brace(s) are the multiple connection points that are prone to inducing creaks and clunks while driving. The Type II Lower Arm Bar is a single, unibody brace that has 4 points of connections vs 8 points on the VA version, and did not creak or clunk after installing. The VA braces creaked and clunked like a whore house bed. By utilizing Cusco's Front Power Subframe Brace, you are given a choice to install either type (GR/GV or VA) lower arm bars since the lateral tabs are removable. Everything bolts up the same due to similar dimensions. The other option, should you run the OEM subframe brace, is to cut off the lateral tabs to prevent them from interfering with the Type II Lower Arm Bar. Follow me on Instagram @octurbojoe!!
