Schaffer Consulting helped Boroo Gold Save Millions by Using Rapid Results Projects

Boroo Gold Mine in Mongolia used Schaffer’s Rapid Results Approach (then called the Breakthrough Process) to engage employees at all levels of the business in a process of change to give team members skills to build capacity and a process to let them challenge how the mine ran. Round 1 consisted of teams working on Bulldozer Availability, Light Vehicle Safety, Excavator Availability, and Mine to Mill Optimization. The teams identified about five million dollars of additional value to Boroo’s business for one year. Availability of bulldozers increased from 58% to 86%, driver safety training reduced accidents of light vehicles on mine property, excavator availability jumped from 66% to 85%, and vehicle rental costs were reduced by 55%. Boroo solved communication issues between miners and mill workers by giving tours and orientation of the mill process to the mine workers and providing them a radio channel to connect. Team members were happy to help the company save money and generate additional revenue, but they were thrilled with the burgeoning confidence in themselves and their team members to stand up and be heard, to develop leadership skills, and to learn how to get people and departments to communicate well. They are all confident in the company’s ability to sustain the results of their teams. As they move into Round 2 of the Rapid Results projects, Boroo is bringing in new team members to mix with those from Round 1.
