(10 Sep 2016) Hillary Clinton is drawing criticism for comments made at a private fundraiser saying that half of Donald Trump's supporters belong in a "basket of deplorables." The Democratic presidential candidate made the statement at a gala LGBT fundraiser Friday night in a New York City restaurant with about a 1,000 people in attendance. She said half of Trump's backers are "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic - you name it." But she stressed that the rest of her Republican rival's supporters are people who feel let down by the government and the economy and "they're just desperate for change." Those people, she said, need understanding and empathy. Clinton has not let the press attend many fundraisers, but a group of journalists was given access to this event for her remarks.
