The Cherokee Orphan Asylum and Related Genealogy Records

Presenter: Ashley Vann, Genealogist Cherokee Heritage Center The first Cherokee Indian Orphan Asylum was built by the Cherokee Nation in 1875. Completed at a cost of approximately $45,000, the institution was supported solely by tribal funds at an annual cost of about $13,500 and supported about 150 boys and girls. Ashley Vann, genealogist at the Cherokee Heritage Center, will give a brief history of the orphan asylum and discuss genealogy records relating to the institution.
