We'll delve into laboratory studies using mortar prisms, examining the expansion behavior of concrete exposed to sodium sulphate and magnesium sulphate solutions. We'll also discuss salt crystallization as another form of sulphate-related damage and explore the mechanisms behind sulphuric acid attack, particularly in sewage networks. Finally, we'll touch upon strategies for mitigating sulphate attack, including using sulphate-resisting cement, limiting C3A content, reducing permeability, and employing protective measures like limestone aggregate and calcium aluminate cement.
