Centre On Dynamics of Ethnicity: Racist banter is no laughing matter!

This film challenges the idea that racist banter is ‘just a joke’ or ‘a harmless bit of fun’. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, this film is a part of series of short films and graphic novels based on the 2015 Race at Work survey. Commissioned by Business in the Community, 24, 457 people took part in the survey, making it one of the biggest surveys of its kind. In collaboration with Feedback Films, we have used the actual answers that participants gave to the survey questions to address some of the key issues that we discussed in the 2016 Equality, Diversity and Racism in the Workplace report. We want to thank both the people across the UK who took part in the Race at Work survey and the people who volunteered to take part in these films for sharing their experiences of racism at work. Without you we would not have been able to help draw attention to the nature, scale, impact and persistence of racism in the workplace.
