Roger Li, MD, H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL, comments on the success of oncolytic virus therapy in early-stage bladder cancer, highlighting the optimal disease setting for its deployment. He notes that oncolytic viruses work well when they have direct contact with the lesion, and intravesical therapy allows for this by coating the entire bladder lumen with the therapeutic agent. Dr Li also emphasizes that minimal disease burden, as seen in early-stage bladder cancer, is crucial for inducing a long-lasting immunogenic response against tumor cells.
