To commemorate Black History Month 2021, OCTA created a number of short videos highlighting African-Americans on our National Historic Trails. This video features Trinity Palmer, a fictional character created and portrayed by Nancy Eppert, the director of the Independence (MO) Community Theater. She created the slave-owning character of Trinity Palmer using various sources to cobble together an example of life along the trails in Jackson County in the mid-19th century. Beginning in 1812 over 500,000 emigrants traveled the trails to reach a brighter future. OCTA Mission Our mission is to protect the Historic Emigrant Trails legacy by promoting research, education, preservation activities and public awareness of the trails, and to work with others to promote these causes.
