Life on the river is proving to be incredibly satisfying. The Fraser river is not much of a fishing river, but the amount of life and activity happening along the river banks is incredible. Over the winter we got to witness some wild ice jams, and as things melt and brake up, what is left behind is just as impressive. Ice on the river banks is piled up more than 15 feet by my place, and I can only assume that it gets thicker the further down river you go. The force of the ice has also managed to turn up some ghost town treasures from the old days. I think these will be events that I look forward to annually. Work at the lot is an ongoing grind, but progress is more evident on a daily basis. After all of the cleanup we have done here, it is hard to believe there is any left, but I think we will be taking on cleanup jobs for quite some time yet. The property sat for more than 20 years when the previous owners had it, and through this time, the amount of garbage scattered across the entire parcel is to an extent I still don't completely comprehend. Garbage aside, the overgrowth has covered and concealed every square foot of this lot. Taking on each of these jobs has been fun and exciting for me, but I have been surprised to see how much time is consumed with simply figuring out the correct way to do them. I am not sure if a brush saw and chipper were the right tools for this job, but they worked pretty darn good for me. I also go very lucky with the final snow fall. With all of the tall dry grass here, I have to be very careful not to set a fire that I can't control. With all of the tall grass gone, weeds and shrubs chipped, it's time to focus on the house once again.
