The context is conquest and Roman success abroad with spiralling chaos at home. A big theme is the build-up to the Civil War and Caesar crossing the Rubicon in January 49 BC. We end with a quick run through the campaigns of the Civil War. Primary sources include Caesar's War Commentaries, Cicero's letters and speeches, Plutarch's Lives, Appian's Civil War.
