Luthier workshop www.gianlucaceccarini.com Persian Barbat 6 courses ‏Diapason 60 cm. ‏Soundboard in Val di Fiemme Red Spruce ‏Case in Walnut ‏Rose carved directly on the soundboard ‏Pegs in Boxwood ‏The Barbat built in our laboratory has a 60 cm. diapason with a slender but deep case. In the construction of this lute we have combined the Iranian construction tradition with Western Renaissance lutes tradition. In fact, our Barbat has a soundboard shape very similar to the European Renaissance lute with which it also shares the bracing and the woods used: Val di Fiemme red spruce for the soundboard and walnut for the case. The Val di Fiemme red spruce of the Italian and European luthier tradition has been used for centuries by historic luthiers such as Antonio Stradivari. ‏The finish is in natural shellac. ‏ The rosette is carved directly into the soundboard as in ancient European lutes and the design comes from a bas-relief we photographed on a doorway in a village in Iran.
