Case studies of interesting commercial, education, scientific and personal Exidy Sorcerer applications including accounting, computer-controlled engraving, biochemistry teaching, control of a model railway layout and studying the Southern Aurora in the Antarctic, Michael Borthwick has owned a Sorcerer since the early 80s using it for word processing through later years of high school and at university. He was a member of the Melbourne user group SCUA and the South Australian user group SUGSA. He has been active for more than a decade working to preserve Sorcerer software from ROM, cassette and floppy disks, literature including manuals and newsletters and the stories of what people actually did with the earliest microcomputers. He recently completed a Masters of Research at Swinburne University via a thesis examining Sorcerer user groups in Sydney and the Netherlands and delivered a paper at the iPres Digital Preservation Conference 2024 on the preservation of computer software stored on audio cassette. In addition to the Sorcerer he is keen to preserve the history of lesser-known Australian computers including the Rabble65, Excalibur64 and the microcomputers and X-Terminals of Melbourne company Labtam. https://orcid.org/0009-0008-7389-6289 Recorded at VCF Down Under 2025.
