Kuga Plug-in Hybrid’s Regenerative Braking helps you make the most of your electric driving range. Energy that would otherwise be lost when you apply the brakes is recaptured and used to sustain the battery charge. Explore Kuga Plug-in Hybrid: http://ford.to/FordKuga To help maximise the electric range, advanced regenerative braking technology recharges the hybrid battery as you drive. The system works by recapturing the energy that’s usually lost when you apply the brakes, and sending this power back to the battery. To do this, the system turns the electric motor into a generator when you apply the brakes. This slows the vehicle down and harvests energy back to the battery. If additional braking force is needed, the normal braking system will also apply. To get the most benefit from the regenerative braking system, try to avoid harsh acceleration or sudden braking. Useful driver aids also help you to get the most from your electric vehicle experience. Battery usage and regeneration is displayed in the Digital Instrument Cluster. The Power Flow feature in your Ford SYNC 3 screen gives you visual feedback on energy use and recovery. Your Kuga Plug-in Hybrid also includes a Brake Coach feature, which awards a score based on your level of energy recapture achieved with each journey. The more energy recovered, the higher the Brake Coach score. Using the Low Gear function when going descending a steep slope gives greater control of the vehicle without over-using the brakes. This will also increase the level of energy recaptured through Regenerative Braking.
