An Air France Concorde arrives at Shannon Airport where pilots will train for a week. During the training of nine pilots Concorde will not be flying at supersonic speeds while in Ireland. Despite the novelty of having a supersonic jet airliner in Shannon, only a handful of onlookers turned up to see Concorde land and take-off. Concorde is here solely to practice landing and take-off procedures. The Air France training deal is worth about £200,000 to the Shannon region. If the trial training exercise proves successful, Concorde may become a more common sight in the region. Six foreign airlines are now training at Shannon Airport, among them the Swiss national airline Swissair. This training alone, is now worth £500,000 to Shannon every year.
