from the last speed of doom, we're heading to the far side of the doom map spectrum for some pure power metal slaughter excess. this is one of those maps that gave me a super hard time on my first playthrough but took exactly one (1) attempt this time. that's not to say it's easy, necessarily, but if you're used to wrangling a lot of monsters on screen at once there's nothing that'll pressure you too hard - there's generally lots of space and time to do what you need to do. this map also runs pretty tight on the ammo side, especially at the start. should probably have punched more pinkies but... eh. didn't have too much trouble, all things considered. maybe the most troublesome bit is the pain elementals, which are just kind of wandering around and if not quickly corralled will chew through an obnoxious amount of ammo. either that or the area where you get the rocket launcher and have to try and pick off three archviles in a sea of imps, but you've got a whole side closet to break line of sight so it's not too bad as long as you don't dawdle too much. there's some really cool setpieces at the end, including an actually good use of invincibility. definitely didn't know how to use the bfg well enough on my first playthrough but if you're reasonably precise you can get through almost everything here. about my only complaint is that i wished the midi looped better. it's a great midi! even if it "borrows" its main riff from x-japan. if bobby prince did it, everyone can do it. speed of doom: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/lev... get the demo: https://s3.yrriban.net/doom/sodfinal_... source port used: dsda-doom 0.29.3 sound font used: arachno.sf2 flags: -complevel 9
