First introduced in 1968 as a special-order top-of-the-line model, the D55 was so well-received that Guild added it into the regular production line by 1974. Famously played by Tommy Smothers on the Smothers Brothers Show in the 1960s, it became also known as the TV Model or TV D55. The D55 was designed to be a premium, flagship model that offered exceptional sound and construction. Though similar in design to the D50 or D40, the D55 features higher-end cosmetic appointments like block inlays, as well as an ebony bridge and three-piece mahogany/maple neck. This natural finished D55 from 1976 is a magnificent flat-picking and strumming guitar with a very loud and lush tone. The low end sounds deep, warm, and almost a little woolly, which is perfectly complemented by the clarity of the trebles. Probably the main reason why it has such a powerful and open tone is because it has been well-played in over the years, as the playwear, dings and lacquer chips show. It has been well cared for and is now still in very good condition. Comes in a hardshell case with TFOA passport. Gear: Guild D55 1976: https://www.tfoa.eu/en/shop/guild-d55...
