Pro Mix is one of the most popular grow mediums that exists and they offer a wide rand of different grow mediums but today we’re gonna test the HP version. HP stands for high porosity which is well draining because it has a high percentage of perlite. This version also includes bacillus buh•si•luhs, which is a natural biofungicide and mychorhizzhae, which has a symbiotic relationship with the roots and helps break down nutrients in soil. The lab test I submitted to the University of Delaware shows that this has low soluble salts and across the board, It’s rated low to acceptable for every main nutrient except for Phosphorous. Since it low in nutrients, this mix is perfect for either seedlings and clones, but as the plants get bigger, you’re going to want to add nutrients. This is not an organic soil, but since it has mychorizzhae, you can add organic nutrients and worm castings to be broken down. I’d recommend both a basic 4-4-4 and worm castings and to premoisten this soil for at least 5 days before using. The amount you will add is based on the size of the plant and volume of soil and a brief summary is included in the description. The high porosity also makes this a good medium for succulents, but Since this soil has a low amount of phosphorous, you still want to add something with more phosphorous as both succulents and plants that fruit will require more. Finally, My at home slurry came back at a 6.8 which was extremely close to the 6.7 from the lab test and this is ideal for most plants.
