A wealth of positive development has happened in CCUS, and carbon management more widely, over the past year. More projects have been announced and several countries across many continents have either put forward, or are in the process of releasing, new carbon management strategies and associated policies. But we are still moving too slowly. For example, looking at the Gigatonne-scale objective under the Carbon Management Challenge, Signatories’ current CCUS commitments represent just under 15% of the needed volumes to be captured and stored. A serious acceleration of the ramp-up is thus needed. What are the key challenges to accelerate CCUS? What are key next steps? What does the latest data reveal to us?
