Performed at the Live Composition Festival, April 26th, 2025 at We Are Here Studios in Brooklyn, NY. The Sam Day Harmet Soundpainting Collective teams up with New York's premiere taishogoto band Abazaba for a journey into the twisted cultural landscape of the early 1990s. Drawing text from Fukuyama's "The End of History and the Last Man," the piece explores the moment when many observers thought that with the fall of the Soviet Union, history had reached a kind of logical endpoint with the global rise of free market liberal democracies. The group tears into this quaint and peculiar epoch against a backdrop of taishogoto-driven noise rock, 90s house beats, and warped projection art. In order of appearance: Sam Day Harmet - Soundpainter, SP-404 sampler Erica Mancini - tenor taishogoto Steve Shelley - drums Smokey Hormel - bass taishogoto Quince Marcum - alto taishogoto Andrea Pryor - percussion Mohamed Kubbara - congas Theo Woodward - electronics, winds Trey Cregan - electronics Boris Nazarov - electronics Bry Payne - vocals Ali Dineen - vocals Amy Carrigan - vocals Luisa Muhr - vocals Ryan Simpson - projections Video recording by Kimberly Haven Audio recording by Frankie Sunswept Edited by Sam Day Harmet Composed in real time using Soundpainting, a live composing sign language http://www.soundpainting.org http://samdayharmet.com
