We take you to an on-road experience of the BHU main Campus in Varanasi. & a quick sneak peek in to the Vishwanath temple inside the BHU Campus. Banaras Hindu University (BHU), formerly Central Hindu College, is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It was established jointly in 1916 by the Maharaja Rameshwar Singh,[5] Madan Mohan Malaviya, Sunder Lal & Annie Besant. The university's main campus in Varanasi is spread over 1,300 acres (5.3 km2) was built on land donated by the Kashi Naresh Prabhu Narayan Singh. Over 30,000 students residing on campus, it is the largest residential university in Asia. BHU is organized into six institutes and 14 faculties and about 140 departments It has over 75 hostels for resident students. BHU celebrated its centenary year in 2015–2016 and Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya Birth Anniversary on 25 December 2015. Shri Vishwanath Mandir / Temple is one of the most famous temples and biggest tourist attractions in the holy city of Varanasi. The temple is located inside the Banaras Hindu University and is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. The design of the temple was inspired by the Original Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, that was destroyed several times (in 1194 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, during 1447-1458 by Hussain Shah Sharqi and then in 1669 CE by Aurangzeb). In 1930s, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya planned to replicate Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mandir in the campus of Banaras Hindu University. The Birla family undertook the construction and foundation was laid in March 1931. The temple was finally completed in 1966.
