Howard was arrested on a criminal trespass from the Publix even though she was not on Publix property. It was stated by Officer Leonard that it was believed she was stealing, while the stores were closed at 1 am Friday night. Howard is an elderly female, she stated to EMS she was shoved into the back of the police car and suffered several broken ribs. Howard was then taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center and dropped off in the parking lot of the jail. The jail staff refused to accept her due to her injuries and there was a lot of chaos and lies past that point. Officer Gregory Ayers was fired and decertified by the state of Georgia. DECEPTIVE IN AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION IA case 047 / 211A033 In a recorded interview on May 24, 2021, Sergeant Gregory Ayers was questioned about an incident involving Officers Leonard and Overbay arresting a female for trespassing at Publix. Ayers was informed that Leonard made statements about dropping off the arrestee at the front of the jail. Ayers denied talking to Leonard during the incident. However, call records showed two calls between them around the time of the incident. Ayers couldn't recall the details of the calls or the conversation. He also couldn't recall what he was doing that morning. Ayers stated that he didn't recall discussing with Leonard the inappropriate action of dropping off individuals at the jail's front. He mentioned conversations with Lt. Campbell and Captain Tucker regarding the incident.
