He lent his voice to the Emperor in ‘Star Wars’ and was the butler Alfred in ‘Batman’. He celebrated his first successes in the 60s and 70s and became a star in the 80s with his iconic dubbing roles. Born in New Zealand, he died in a nursing home in Los Angeles, as his daughter has now announced. The actor had been suffering from dementia for years. During his career, which spanned more than 60 years, he was an inspiration on stage and in front of the camera. He achieved cult status in 1980 with his dubbing voice of Emperor Palpatine in ‘Star Wars’. Roles in ‘Transformers’ or ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ also made him famous. He has also appeared in films such as ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Columbo’, ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’, ‘Lois and Clark’ and the Mel Brooks comedies ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Dracula’. His last film was from 2016: ‘The Queen of Spain’. He then retired from the film business.
