In this video, we explore various events that led up to sustaining the honey bees in-depth. Listen to our conversations with distinguished entomologists Dr. Marla Spivak and Dr. Jay Evans. INTEC - explore revolutionary tech www.exploreINTEC.com Twitter: / exploreintec Instagram: / exploreintec Produced by: Dhruv Chanekar Tanmay Gera ---- ERRORS WE FOUND IN OUR VIDEO: 9:00- The Minnesota Hygienic Line was started in the 1990's. 10:00- Breeding bees for hygienic behavior increased bees' resistance to diseases and mites, but does not eliminate them. 10:50- The Minnesota Hygienic Line was ended in 2009. 11:35- See below for feedback from Dr. Marla Spivak: "me talking about stopping breeding the Hyg line and saying "do it yourself" -- in fact, Bee Informed Partnership (BIP) is providing help to beekeepers to help them do it themselves, and making great progress! (i just don't want to sound like I quit helping beekeepers! - I didn't stop breeding until I knew BIP would be providing help)." 11:43- The video in the background is of wasps, not honey bees. 12:40- Mites cannot develop resistence to bees' hygienic behavior. ---- INTRO: Every year 45% of managed honey bee colonies die in the United States. The reason: varroa mites along with a bunch of other factors. These red-brown parasites attach themselves to adult bees and larvae in bee colonies. They then feed on these living bees, devouring them from the inside out. If not taken care of, nearly all bee colonies will be eradicated, and we wouldn't have the variety of food that we have today. No coffee on your way to work, bread for sandwiches, or avocado for toast. Without honey bees, our plates would look very bare. Have any steps to save the bees worked?
