More than 300,000 properties are still without power in Queensland and NSW as ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred continues to wreak havoc across Australia's east. Severe winds and heavy rains lashed the town of Hervey Bay, where more than 300m of rainfall has been recorded in the past 12 hours. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited the army barracks in Queensland where some of the soldiers deployed to help with the disaster were stationed. His visit was in response to yesterday's crash, where more than a dozen ADF personnel were injured when two military vehicles crashed near Lismore. International alarm is growing over violence in western Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the execution of 750 civilians from the Alawite minority and loyalists of the Assad former regime. Ukrainian officials say at least 25 people have been killed over the past day as Russia ramps up its attacks on a country now without US military support.
