105 - What is Community Based Tourism? Visiting the Bribri community in Costa Rica!

To try to find out more about community-based tourism, I went to go visit one of the Bribri communities in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. The tour was organised by ATEC (Asociación Talamanqueña de Ecoturismo y Conservación) who focus on eco-tourism. It was a great day finding out about the Bribri's cultures and traditions, as well as making, eating and covering myself in chocolate! This was an opportunity to find out more about community-based tourism and what this actually means. I learnt about the economic side to tourism, and how community-based tourism can give some control and ownership back to the communities, allowing them to use tourism as a tool for development.
