Rather than a new turbo why not just change the core of the turbo. In this example it only cost £40 and was relatively quick. As shown in the video. This turbo was a Garrett GT2052LS as used on the 1.8T engine in Rover and MG cars (rover 75, MG ZT) and probably others as well like the MG6 1.8T. Similar GT2052 turbos are also used on the Vauxhall / Opel Signum 2.0 Turbo, Vauxhall / Opel Vectra 2.0 Turbo, Saab 9-3 & 9-5 2.0T. I picked up the new turbo core for £40 from ebay UK, however the prices seem to vary a lot. Currently seem to be about £70, could be the current Coronavirus effect on the market! So shop around.
