REMEDIES FOR NOISY NEIGHBORS If you live in Las Vegas, and your neighbors are playing their music too loud, you can take the following three measures to try to make them stop. 1) First, simply ask your neighbors to turn down the music. If that does not work, report them to the HOA, if you have one. The HOA could threaten them with fines if they do not quiet down. And if the neighbors are tenants, make a noise complaint with the property manager. 2) Call 311, the non-emergency police line. Officers will then be dispatched to deal with the neighbors. Alternatively, file a “code enforcement complaint” with the Clark County Public Response Office (PRO). And if the neighbors persist in playing loud music, consider filing a police report for noise pollution and breaching the peace. 3) Sue. Potential causes of action are negligence, nuisance, intrusion on seclusion, and/or intentional infliction of emotional distress. Most lawsuits settle out of court. But if you win at trial, the judge can award you monetary damages and order that the defendants stop playing their music so loud. Whatever route you take, be sure to compile all the relevant evidence. Take video or audio recordings, get the contact information of other neighbors willing to testify as eyewitnesses, and document all the times you tried to reason with the neighbors.
